Dr. Newman C. Taylor was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Dentistry and had retired from the College of Dentistry in 1984 after 15 years of service. In addition to his teaching position, he maintained a private practice in Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. Taylor had been a staff dentist at Jefferson Memorial and Circle Terrace Hospital in Alexandria. He was a past president of the Alexandria Dental Society and a very active member in the National Dental Association and the Virginia State Dental Association. Dr. Taylor was a dedicated practitioner and teacher who greatly contributed to the dental profession.
The Northern Virginia Dental component of Old Dominion Dental Society is revitalized with a renewed spirit and renowned purpose. Newman Taylor Dental Society, encompassing Alexandria, Arlington , Manassas, and the Dulles Corridor, is the epitome of the re-organizing force that the Old Dominion Dental Society has displayed among its members throughout our rich history. Dr. Hudgins states that there is renewed interest among African American practitioners in Northern Virginia seeking other practitioners that have similar experiences as themselves.
